Wearing your best lip gloss on any given day makes you feel like that girl. For years, it seemed this beauty product couldn’t quite shake its association with velour Juicy Couture tracksuits and messy middle school first kisses (who didn’t keep a fresh tube of Lip Smacker lip gloss in their back pocket, just in case?). But it’s 2022 now, and we’re here to report that lip gloss has shaken off its juvenile association to become the hottest cosmetic product of the year.
The reign of ultradry, matte liquid lips has recently fallen out of favor, with everyone from influencers and makeup artists instead opting for glosses and lip oils designed to deliver perfect shine. Thank Rihanna, who makes everything look good (her Gloss Bomb is one of the best-selling Fenty products), or Glossier, which popularized, well, anything glossy.
The latest iterations offer shine, color, and comfort across the board, and those sticky, hair-catching problems you remember from the ’90s and early ’00s are firmly in the past. Aside from being a part of the clean-girl makeup routine, hydrating formulas in lip masks and lip oils (hello, Dior Lip Glow Oil!) also double as incredible glosses. It’s a win-win.
Need proof? We asked Glamour editors to share their all-time best lip glosses. Here are the ones that won glowing reviews across the board.

Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment
Hailey Bieber’s Rhode Skin line has pretty much sold out after every restock since it’s debut and for good reason—the products are quality, chic, and affordable. The Peptide Lip Treatment gives you the most luscious lips without feeling super sticky or heavy (a rarity for lip glosses, IMO) and the gloss is so shiny and pretty. My lips are incredibly sensitive to product and typically act up by becoming itchy and leathery, but they haven’t had any reaction to this treatment—even the watermelon and caramel flavors. —Ariana Yaptango, senior beauty editor

Something about this pink and shimmery lip gloss brings me back to eighth grade. The packaging has that nostalgic element (who didn’t own a wand lip gloss back in the day?) but the formula is anything but outdated—with coconut oil, peptides, and vitamin E, my lips feel plump and hydrated. This is the lip gloss Lil Mama was singing about on my middle school dance playlist. —A.Y.

I love keeping it in my bag for reapplication throughout the day. —Andrea Navarro, commerce writer

Glossier Lip Gloss
I was never a big lip gloss girl until I got my hands on the iconic Glossier lip gloss when the brand first came out. Since then, it’s been my old reliable—surviving through many trips abroad, being thrown to the bottom of my work bag, and tumbling in the washing machine in my favorite pair of jeans (seriously). The Glossier lip gloss is everything a lip gloss should be—slightly sticky, ultrashiny, and just tinted enough. It’s my first lip gloss love and will probably be my last. —Ana Escalante, editorial assistant

It’s meant to be used overnight so that your lips wake up feeling extra hydrated, but I also slather it at least three times a day. Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss
Kosas’s lip oil made made me audibly gasp as soon as I applied it. It has everything you could want from a newer gloss: It leaves out the tacky residue and glittery flecks, and turns up the skin-loving ingredients, with hyaluronic acid for hydration and peptides for instant lip plumping. Sometimes my lips feel drier and look parched after gloss dries down—but not with this. You can really feel the nourishing shea butter and avocado oil, and your lips truly look wet. If that’s not enough, of all tje lip gloss colors I’ve tried, I keep coming back to Kosas’s Dip color, which is a rosey nude. Stunning. —Shanna Shipin, contributing commerce editor
