As temperatures start to creep up, we’re officially ready for spring makeup looks to come back in full force. Of course, we could never part with glittery eye shadow and red lipstick, but after a season of jewel-toned hues and holiday-inspired glam it’s time to lighten things up.
One of the biggest trends of the season? Leaning in to your natural features. According to both Drita Paljevic, head makeup artist at Kevyn Aucoin Beauty, and Autumne West, Nordstrom beauty director, skin will be the main focus this spring.
“Skin was such a focus at every New York Fashion Week show I attended,” says West. “A minimalist approach was apparent when the natural finish on skin really came through. By avoiding too much shine and a heavy hand, it was clear makeup artists were going for coverage looks with a flawless finish, much like a soft-focus photo filter.”
That doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with makeup. Makeup artist Gabriel Barse predicts pastel colors will be big this season, accented with glitter and texture to amp up the playfulness. “Spring is the season of softness—think delicate washes of pastel, peachy, and rosy shades, and skin that radiates like it’s kissed by sunlight,” says Barse.

Pastels may seem too on the nose for spring, but according to Barse, that’s kind of the point. “This romantic vibe lends itself to calm and gentleness in an ever-busy world,” he says.

Locked-In Lip Combo
Lip combos are more popular than ever. According to Paljevic, the bolder the contrast, the better. “The throwback combination of a defined liner and ultra-shiny gloss gets a 2025 update with softer, rosy hues and a plush, plumped finish,” she says.
Start by outlining the lips with a deeper nude or pink liner like the Unforgettable Lip Definer before topping things off with an ultra-shiny lip gloss. “Try the Celestial Lip Gloss in a pinky shade like Erika or Yuwen for that plump, pillowy effect with a touch of sheen,” says Paljevic. “The result: a dreamy, fresh take on the ultimate It-girl lip.”

“This season, it’s all about strawberry-inspired skin—dewy, glowing, and perfectly flushed, with a sprinkle of faux freckles for that naturally youthful vibe,” says Barse. To get the perfect dewy strawberry flush, try using a cream or liquid formula, which has a more skin-like finish.
Barse recommends the Flower Knows Strawberry Cupid All Day Glow Liquid Blush and Flower Knows Midsummer Fairytales Liquid Highlighter for a “beautiful, flushed effect and subtle shimmer.” Complete the look with brown liquid liner dotted across the nose and blended out for natural freckles.

Playful Eyes
It’s all about the eyes this spring. “This play on statement eyes is not just about drama—it’s about fun,” says Barse. “Think bold lines, glittery accents, and playful combinations of textures that make your eyes pop.”
Autumne agrees, encouraging experimentation outside of the traditional shapes and colors. “There will always be some fun makeup accentuated for show to convey a mood and showcase a designer’s vision through make-up art,” she says. “That should be taken for exactly what it is—makeup is fun and artistic, and you can do what you want with it. It isn’t permanent!”

According to both Paljevic and West, you’ll want to spend extra time on your complexion this spring, focusing on areas like the cheekbones, nose, and lips.
“It’s all about strategic sculpting and highlighting your unique bone structure to accentuate your natural features, resulting in a glamorous, airbrushed, and elevated version of yourself,” says Paljevic. Old Hollywood Blush
This season we’re dialing up our blush obsession with bright shades taken all the way up to the temples. Paljevic says more is more with this bold beauty look. “Inspired by Old Hollywood but with a modern twist, this look features bold, sculpted blush swept across the cheeks and up toward the temples for a lifted, radiant effect,” she says.
Paljevic recommends using a cream blush first like Kevyn Aucoin The Color Stick to create a base. “Blend out with a brush to ensure a diffused look with no harsh lines,” she says. “Next, use a buildable, multi-shade pigment to set. Work the powder blush into your brush bristles, then blend upward for an extra-lifted look.”
